I can’t believe another month has come and gone and it’s time for Let’s Hear it for the Locals!! Incase you missed last month’s, Let’s hear it for the locals is a monthly blog post featuring other small, local businesses in the Raleigh/Durham area. This month we have one of my sweet friends, Molly Smith, founder and owner of Molly Smiles Designs. Molly is a Calligrapher and watercolor artists! She is so talented and I am honored to feature her on my blog this month! Also, one of the first things I remembered about Molly was her sweet dance moves. Scroll to the bottom to see!
What’s your business name and where did you get the inspiration from?
My business name is Molly Smiles Designs. Originally my twitter handle was Molly Smiles (from a random song) which then turned into my Instagram handle. I toiled over the decision of what to call my business and it was holding me back from actually opening up my shop, so I decided to just go with Molly Smiles Designs! Wish I had a cooler story about it!
When did you start your business?
Where is your business located?
Durham, North Carolina
It’s Friday night and you can do anything. What do you do?
I would love to eat dinner with my husband and some friends and then have drinks and s’mores by a bonfire!
What’s your favorite thing you love about your job?
I love having the opportunity to create! I feel like it’s something we don’t always value in our fast-paced culture so I like being able to sit down and actually make something.
If you had to sneak candy into the movie theater what would it be?
I love sour candy, my favorite are these things called sour belts that you really can only get at actual candy stores. I take my sour candy VERY seriously!
What sets your business apart?
I want to create art that helps people remember Jesus in their everyday lives. The words I choose to add to my art are chosen with that goal in mind. If I can help one person remember the value of Christ, then that is worth it!
What are your dreams for you business in the future?
I get little ideas for where I would like this business to go and write them on random scraps of paper that I eventually lose track of! But there are some dreams that have not been lost on scraps of paper! I would love to be able to make my creations more accessible by digitizing them which I am currently working towards. Along those same lines I have some ideas for a more focused Scripture memory plan.
What’s your favorite Netflix show to binge watch?
The Office. No question. Actually embarrassed to think about how many times I’ve watched it!
